| How | |
| Using king rigs is most common. Bottom rigs and Gotcha's work occasionally. | |
| With What | Live bluefish, mullet, spot, menhaden, pinfish, small sand sharks, blue crabs... Practically any live bait. |
| When | Spring, summer and fall. May 15 is the approximate day for Cobia coming into the sounds of North Carolina to spawn. Spring and early summer is the best. Daybreak... |
| Where | On a pier: anywhere they allow king rigs, usually at the very end. Cobia are almost always found in the shade of some sort of cover, like a buoy, bridge, or pier. They often travel in pairs or small schools. If you hook one cobia, leave it in the water and put another bait out. |
| Why | Cobia are delicious! They have a firmer texture than any other fish I know of. They are still good after freezing if you can't eat it all at once. They are also excellent fighters. |
